Photo of an female Anhinga made by Foek Chin Joe in Suriname. The male is almost totally black with a white on its wings. Anhingas have spear-like bills with which they catch their food, mainly fish that they obtain by diving from the surface of the water. They can float with only a small part (their head) out of the water. In Suriname you find them along the big rivers and in lagoons along the coast. They nest together with bigger herons in trees.
Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.Almost all observations near water.
