First a photo of a captured Ruddy Quail-dove, made by John Mittermeier on the Sipaliwini savanna in 2007. Then a very dark photo of a Ruddy Quail-dove, made by Carl Beel in the darkness of a dense forest in Suriname in 2008 and a photo made on an easier place to photograph by J.H. Ribot, Walsrode zoo 1998. As this dove likes the forest, it is often seen in poor light conditions. Often you find it walking on the forest-floor like a quail. It is rather common in Suriname, but not in the coastal area or on open savanna.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
